A Note from Hunger Run Race Director Carrie Horton

As a race director, running coach and runner of many years, I was preparing for just another race experience as we set up for our inaugural Hunger Run last year. Lists were checked and double-checked, racers were getting ready, and most importantly, we were raising money for two very worthy organizations: Second Harvest Food Bank and Union Gospel Mission.

We had exceeded our participant goal by several hundred runners. All was going as expected. As runners crossed the line, I wanted to hear their stories. Runner after runner and walker after walker seemed to tell a similar story. This was a family event and first time race for many. It changed people’s lives in ways I had not anticipated. So many never believed that they could complete a 5k but left that day knowing they could. The Hunger Run that day not only fed many people but also nurtured a love of running, fitness, family and community.

Whether you are a seasoned or beginning runner, walker, family or group of friends, we hope to see you out there on April 1st for a great community event! – Carrie

Hi Carrie, this is J.R. Conrow from the Liberty Lake Splash newspaper once again. I reached out a couple weeks back about the run and have been visiting the Hunger Run site and its Facebook page. Have some good information for my story but I wanted to get more information directly from you. What gave you the idea to create The Hunger Run? How have you felt about the success and numbers of those participating in the two years of holding it? What is your biggest hope going forward for this run? Also being a runner and coach yourself, what got you into this path to start? Anything you are able to share on the questions or something else you feel I should know, don’t hesitate to share with me. Thanks for your time
